2 men busted in Beaumont drug raid

Two Texas men were recently taken into custody on drug charges after police received multiple complaints about illicit activities occurring at a residential property. The incident took place in Beaumont.

According to the Beaumont Police Department, police detectives and members of the SWAT Team executed a search warrant at a home on the 4500 block of Ironton Avenue in response to "numerous citizen complaints" about alleged drug activity taking place on the property. During the search, officers reportedly discovered a sizable amount of narcotics, including 21,628 grams of the antihistamine promethazine, 200 grams of ecstasy, 12.64 ounces of marijuana and a large amount of unspecified prescription drugs. In addition, they seized four handguns.

While four people were initially arrested, only two have been charged. The defendants, a 32-year-old man and a 21-year-old man, were each charged with eight counts of possession of a controlled substance, seven counts of possession of a dangerous drug, one count of possession of marijuana and one count of possession of a stolen firearm. The 32-year-old was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Both men were transported to the Jefferson County Jail for processing. The investigation is ongoing.

People who are convicted on drug charges could be sentenced to years in prison, assessed steep fines and forced to forfeit assets. However, by working with a criminal defense attorney, some defendants might be able to avoid some or all of those penalties. An attorney might be able to investigate the case and find evidence that undermines the prosecution's version of events. If that happens, the charges could be dismissed. Alternatively, the attorney may be able to negotiate a favorable plea deal that reduces the charges, which could help the defendant obtain a more lenient sentence.
